Unclean, Unclean!

I feel so dirty. I just placed my first order ever from Amazon.com. For those of you who don’t remember, Amazon decided it was in their best interest to basically try to patent everything that makes eCommerce work back in the late 1990s. This included things like “One Click Shopping” and quite possibly the idea of a ‘shopping cart’.

Luckily, the courts didn’t allow it, but I’ve never really liked an Organization that operated like that. Plus, I like to support local business where possible. So, when Sovereign Press published the Serenity Role Playing Game, I tried to buy it local. No dice.

So, I turned to the Internet, and the savings that Amazon offered was so amazing, I couldn’t justify paying more. I feel so dirty…

I'll be riding a radio wave to Space

Soon, that is. I just took my Amateur Radio License exam on Saturday, and passed my Technician test easily. Since I could take the General exam without pay more, I sat down for it, and failed it by a single question. But, I’m a Ham, and soon I’ll have my callsign to prove it.

I bought a radio, a Kenwood TH-F6A, which several of my buddies have, and it’s a pretty nice radio, especially after a few small modifications to it unlock it’s hidden power.

Update: Ugh, I just heard from GigaParts, the place I bought my radio from that they were out of Radios (which I knew), and they don’t expect more until November 4th. It’s a good thing they’re the best price by some margin…

I fly a Starship... Cross the Universe divide

So, it’s been almost a year since I last updated this. If you read my Updates blog, you’ll know that I recently had to do some recovery work making my b2e databases not system hogging pigs. It was fun.

But anyway, what have I been up to for the last…nearly year? Well, last semester went pretty well with school, I’m nearly back to a 3.0 GPA! Catherine and I are still dating, and I’ve got a new job. I started working as a cook at Spectator’s Bar & Grill at the beginning of the summer, I’ve continued working there because I make over $10 an hour on average.

Spectator’s is an interesting job. It’s pretty damn easy cooking, though the boss can be kind of an asshole. Actually, the best part about the job, is that I can be half an hour late for work, and still be the “responsible” one.

Umm, aside from that, not much has changed. I’m planning to take the Amateur Radio License Exam on Saturday, so stay tuned for that.

Serenity (2005)

I’ve talked about Firefly on this blog before, and I have a character, with several pages of backstory, I created for a Trad Games Firefly game posted on my website. So, it would be pretty easy to say that I’m a fairly hardcore browncoat. Even if I wasn’t, I would have been damn pleased to see Serenity.

The core cast is the same as in the Television series, and the writing is the same caliber it always was. They updated the look a little, and Serenity isn’t quite as dark as she was back in the Firefly days. The animation is even a little better.

It’s hard for me to talk about Firefly/Serenity without sounding like a retarded fanboy. Basically, Firefly is the most original and entertaining Science Fiction to hit the media in a very long time. Even if you’re not really into SciFi, Serenity’s characters and events are intriguing enough to make for an excellent show. You owe it to yourself to see this movie.
